Thank you, Tara, for another story of an American hero who kept moving forward in the face of adversity to his end!

Jackson mentored him and Houston, but the relationship with Houston was obviously better. It worked out the way it was supposed to for Texas and our history!

Thanks Tara, he has always been a personal favorite of mine, probably due to the movies with Fess Parker, that I watched as a kid. He was also my Dad's favorite, so much so that when he took up competitive cowboy shooting (SASS) that was the 'handle' he used. Thanks for pulling some old memories to the front. Also if the real Davy was half the man he's been portrayed as, he was quite a man indeed!

Interesting to note the clashes between historic personalities 😉 sometimes we forget that many well known people that lived during the same era didn’t always agree with each other.

Great story! My first experience on Substack, too. Now I want to visit the Alamo during my business trip next week.

Thank you Tara. I think that I would have admired and liked Davey Crockett along with his vision for how America should be.

God bless men like Davey Crockett and God bless the United States of America.

Perhaps Jackson and Crockett didn't get along because they both possessed that independent American spirit. Or, perhaps neither liked having the limelight taken from them. They were only human after all.

He was my favorite growing up. Probably had something to do with Fess Parker and the Disney TV program.

I was surprised to read that Sam Houston wanted The Alamo destroyed. Where could I learn more about that?
