Exactly. Why do the "Woke" have the only acceptable points of view and every other historical or current point of view must be eliminated and canceled. we now destroy statues and rewrite history to conform to the new view. People who have an unacceptable viewpoint are canceled.

As the old saying goes, history ignored is doomed to repeat itself. The pendulum will swing but will it be too late for our great nation?

Thank you Tara.

Hmmm... we are all sinful and broken. That's easy to see as I look around... and in the mirror. Thank you for sharing the truth of American history, warts and all. God bless you Tara, and thank you for all you do.

Thank you Tara! History is there for us to learn from and the cancel crowd these days doesn't want to learn anything that makes them uncomfortable. Cancel culture is very dangerous because by deleting or burying history, we will definitely be doomed to repeat it.

I absolutely LOVE this story. We all, as human beings have strengths and weaknesses…we need to remember that! “WAKE UP”😂

Indeed, perfection is not found among us humans, but it does seem some folks use magnifying equipment to find a "speck" in others eyes, especially Monday Morning quarterbacks.

Thank you again for a great pice of our history. My great great grandfather fought for the south, he was a bridge builder. Got to see some of his pay records.

I teach middle school in the PNW and I take my class to Washington, DC & Gettysburg every other year. Over the years, I have heard widely divergent views on his actions at Gettysburg from Park guides and docents, but virtual unanimity in their praise for his ability to promote himself. My students always groan and laugh at the adultery and leg stories. Thank you Tara!

I do not understand why people of today do not understand that you can not compare todays morals and values with yesterdays. History will not be kind to them either.

Good point Therese. I doubt history will be kind to those involved in cancel culture, despite the good things those in technology have brought us.

Great story Tara! As we all know...the winners, along with the winners media, write history! Media only prints the blood and guts of glory, and glory is what "sells papers" therefore, only the perfect outcomes are what we are taught as our "history's truths"!

Thank you Tara for expanding the REAL truths of history!! 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸

Good or bad it is history. I’m glad you share it all. I wonder if the letter about Key’s son was really true or if someone just had a grudge against him. In any event there’s no excuse for murder. The cancel culture is evidence of self righteousness. No one is perfect.

Not much different than those in the public eye today, was he? Just human, as all are. (I dare not use the universal definition and write ,, “as all men are). Thank you for your honest recounting of history.
