President Calvin Coolidges message to the Boy Scouts so soon after his 16 year old son had died was so inspirational.

I for one couldn't have found the strength to deliver that speech had it been me in that circumstance. Silent Cal may have been a man of few words but he certainly used those words remarkably. Thank you Tara.

Some of those same boys were no doubt a part of the Greatest Generation of WWII

Coolidge was very fine person and President, but he was never the same after his son died. He blamed himself for it and it took a lot of light out of his life thereafter…

A great inspirational speech delivered to the Boy Scouts of America by President Coolidge in 1924. Unfortunately the Woke Generation has infiltrated the BSA and this speech would not be accepted today.

How tragic it is that the liberal minority in this Country is destroying what was the Greatest Nation in the World as we sadly sit by and allow it to happen. I fear that the Nation of my children and grandchildren will suffer for it.🙏🙏🙏

The opportunities are here, it takes a big effort, but if handled correctly, the rewards can be glorious! Look to the future with an eye to bettering your own station in life. Coolidge was right!

This one hits close to home. I retired two years ago from the (then) BSA after 16 years managing the largest volume council operated Scout Shops in America and spending 5 days (and 3 nights) each week for several weeks at summer camp, and with the 3 regular year-round shops made for a busy, yet enjoyable time. We did about $1.2m annually in the operation pre-Covid. After losing a big chunk of membership (LDS) the decision was make to go full woke and open membership to females (my opinion, but sometimes it’s fine and good for just guys to do things together and the same for girls) and now they have changed the name to Scouting America . . . or something like that. On a sad note, tying in with today’s story, maybe two weeks ago a 10 year old boy was killed in a jet ski accident at our camp during “National Guard Week”, when the children of National Guardsmen come in and contract with the local council after summer camp weeks are finished, and trained Scout staff stays on in different areas (waterfront, archery, rappelling, etc. That is the first time in 20 years of a death at the camp.

The last great constitutional President.

He said this message over the phone. He picked themes of patriotism, individualism, and duty that BSA were founded on, and came up with some vivid images. The Scouts had a sort of complicated founding, and wasn't an old organization at the time - and was still going through a number of growth events. WWI had shaped the scouts, showing a need to prepare boys for military service. Both of Coolidge's sons were boy scouts. I suspect he was thinking about what his son would not have a chance to grow up to do or be. :(

President Coolidge moved by the unexpected and unfortunate death of his son spoke to the boy scouts. They had an honorable mission at the time. Here was a group of young boys who America was looking to become future leaders and protectors of America. As others expressed not sure the same words would be accepted by that group today. America desperately needs men like President Coolidge. They seem to be few and far between.
