The more I learn of "silent" Calvin Coolidge, the more I admire him. That quote is a true gem.

We are experiencing this in real time now. Sometimes quiet people are thought to be aloof and without substance. But still waters run deep as is the case with Coolidge. So fashionable for politicians to promote themselves rather than promote how they will improve the country for the good of the citizens.

Silent Cal maybe but he certainly understood the mechanism that could, and have changed this nation from a free country to one undermined by a co-oped media and a brainwashed educational system. We unfortunately have become what President Coolidge warned us about. Thank you Tara.

How curious that your short post would feature what was, for John Calvin Coolidge, a long-winded comment!

Once upon a time we had some very wise, honest men with integrity establishing the republic we have in some measure enjoyed. The people we entrusted the keeping of the principles of a free society to have strayed far from them. It certainly started with our education system and the press. “Silent” Calvin Coolidge made his few words count. We need more silent “cool”idge heads in leadership. The desire for power is powerful. To reign them in requires the people to have strong voices. Short message, but a strong one, Tara.

Calvin wasn’t really silent at all. I’ve found so many words of wisdom in speeches & writings of Calvin Coolidge. Here’s more on the press from Cal...

“The public press under an autocracy is necessarily a true agency of propaganda. Under a free government it must be the very reverse. Propaganda seeks to present a part of the facts, to distort their relations, and to force conclusions which could not be drawn from a complete and candid survey of all the facts. It has been observed that propaganda seeks to close the mind, while education seeks to open it. This has become one of the dangers of the present day.”

More wisdom from Calvin Coolidge...that passage was from President Coolidge’s Address before the American Society of Newspaper Editors Washington, D.C. January 17, 1925, entitled “The Press Under a Free Government.”

Thanks Tara 😊 So I believe he understood early on how the press and lobbyists tried to control the narrative, he wouldn't be surprised by government and press today!

This, on my phone(another new in my lifetime thing) works for comment, I think! Just know, Tara, I appreciate your attempts to educate the ignorant! Thank You!

Banning books, making war on authors and dictating only comfortable history be taught in our diverse schools, above, of course, the ten commandments posted in every classroom in one of our states. Are we on the way to another cult of personality? Does every generation have to relearn how precious and unique our democracy is?
