I lived through this, I guess, but at 9 years old, I didn't hear about it until now. Not having ever lived in the South, I can't relate to the blatant race discrimination that was commonplace then.

I did witness some of it as a young Navy man about 10 years later but I still can't imagine how this ever was condoned.

God bless brave people such as Claudette Colvin, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. May our nation live to see the world envisioned by these people and rational people of all races. Thank you Tara.

With only 3 major news networks broadcasting at the time, it is no surprise that this news worthy event was buried. The 24/7 news cycle that exists today would have been all over that story to expose our draconian segregation policies. Not only was her act courageous but it shows how taking a stand can fuel the passions for future courageous actions.
