The action by Leopard was basically an act of war. Americans were furious! Perhaps the War of 1812 would have been the War of 1807, if many Americans had gotten their way back then?!
Wow. I can't believe that I am just learning of this incident. As an old Navy man, I can't imagine a Navy vessel leaving Port with an untrained crew and a ship as cluttered as the USS Chesapeake.
Commodore Baron should have been given a dishonorable discharge and charged with a number of infractions, in my opinion.
And, the attack on the Chesapeake was an act of war and should have been retaliated immediately, again, in my opinion.
Thank you Tara for another piece of amazing history.
I hadn’t heard of this before, but what’s new!!!
Untrained and unprepared!
We can’t let that happen again can we!!!
Thank you Tara!!

I really think of it as a continuation of the same war anyway, don't you?
Probably so!
