I am awed by his heroism, for sure. What also strikes me is what became of his son, knowing the legacy of his brave father.

Men of color and ethnicity were often demeaned and mistreated, seldom recognized for achievements, expected to ‘go along.’ We owe an apology to those who came before who were abused and in spite of it served with honor. I’m sure that medal/reward was/is presented in heaven.
