Another great Medal of Honor story from a very modest and humble recipient. Yes those men and women really did deserve to be known as the Greatest Generation.

1st Lt. Charles Murray led and directed from the front, putting himself in danger to protect the men serving under him. Singlehandedly forcing a superior force to flee, I am amazed at his audacity and determination to complete task assigned to his unit, which he did.

To be wounded, and insist on returning his unit as soon as he could, speaks volumes of his dedication to those men, and to state that he didn't do anything special to merit the MOH, simply because "he was doing his job". He deserves to be be remembered.

Ist Lt. Charles Murray was a hero in anyone's estimation except maybe his own. He did what should have been done. Not only brave but resilient. Being wounded by an enemy grenade, he left for hospital care but returned 2 weeks later to regain command of his company, who had remained where he left it. Talk about an American Hero, he alone had stopped 200 enemy, captured more than a dozen and achieved his objective. For his selfless actions, he was awarded the MOH.

God bless Charles Murray and God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday. These posts are the best!

Another humble hero going above and beyond his duty and protecting his platoon while doing it. 1st Lt. Murray showed what a true leader does…he leads! He doesn’t follow. Too many “leaders” today protect themselves first and foremost. Thankful for the leadership of those who are like Murray and others whose courageous stories you have shared, Tara. We need many more true leaders.

Once again, one man just doing his job. We can all aspire to that, in every event of our lives. Be as faithful to duty as the needle to the pole.

Heroes always feel what they did was not so out of the ordinary. I'm sure his men felt otherwise!

Hats off to another brave American from the greatest generation!!! The devotion to his country and his men were quite common in WW2 all gave some gave all, and like the other MOH recipients didn't think they deserve such an honor!!! We must teach these stories to our High School children!!
