No greater sacrifice can be made than to give your life than to save another. By all accounts that is what Major Loring did. Another great American Hero! Well done Major!
Major Loring literally gave his all for the infantry. His last deliberate act was to direct his wounded plane into the enemy guns that were giving the infantry such a hard time. His brave actions saved an untold number of American lives and his MOH was justly earned.
God bless Major Charles J. Loring Jr and all American fighting people. Thank you Tara for another MOH story that was unknown to me.

Major C.J.Loring - the stuff of earned respect and a source for inspiration ! No greater love … God Bless and grant you the eternal peace and happiness you earned through your service and sacrifice ! RIP , Sir ! 🇺🇸🙏🏻
Maj. Loring said that he "had a soft spot" for infantry. He had already had the experience of being a POW, so I wonder if his self-sacrafice wasn't a combination of fulfilling his duty, and avoiding being captured again. Anyway, he was successful. May he be long remembered.

His valor is unprecedented. Only a true hero could do what he did. It’s very easy to be proud of Charles. May he rest peacefully through the ages.

A tremendous American. I cannot understand this depth of commitment to a cause. His receiving this award, the Medal of Honor, is more than deserved.
Most of us have a soft spot for the Army. It was our beginning. He is an awesome person for his sacrifice and he did save many. He is the namesake for an AFB in Maine. "Loring AFB was carved out of the woods of Maine beginning in the late forties and officially dedicated in 1953, named after Charles J. Loring, Jr., who was killed in the Korean War." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loring_Air_Force_Base#:~:text=Loring%20AFB%20was%20carved%20out%20of%20the%20woods,Jr.%2C%20who%20was%20killed%20in%20the%20Korean%20War.
Thank you, Tara, for another story of the heroism of a Hero who would “do anything for them” and did it!

Was Loring AFB named for him?
