Decades earlier, Wayne Hague had saved Ron Catton from certain capture—maybe even death—in Vietnam. Nevertheless, the two had never met, and they didn’t know each other’s names.
I've loved this story from the first time I heard it. Such an unlikely series of very serious events over enemy territory and the two amazing pilots didn't even know the name of the other man in this scenario. Such is the fog of war. Then to find each other after so long by equally unlikely chance makes the story complete. Thank you Tara.
Vietnam was a horrible war and the thing that made it even worse, is the way our soldiers were treated by some Americans. Anyone remember “Hanoi Jane” (Fonda). To this day, I refuse to watch any movie that she’s in. I know she’s apologized for her actions but because of her, many of our soldiers were treated with contempt and shunned.
Heroism ran strong "over there"!
Thank you to all who served!
What selfless heroes. So many of your stories resonate with the theme: "Caring more for others than myself. " God bless these men and their families.
