Great story of heroism and being humble. All the MOH recipients always feel they don't deserve it and it belongs to all those who fought and died. God bless them all.

Yes. The number of Chinese communists trying to kill me was markedly lower in first grade than it would have been in Vietnam. 😉

Thank you Lt Thacker for saving your men. What an experience! Can’t imagine the combination of jubilation and caution he felt when he realized that the firebase had been recaptured by the US troops.

Of course Brian Thacker reacted to receiving the Medal of Honor as all recipients do. He admitted it was scary going into that war zone, but he went anyway. The experience of hiding from the enemy for 8 days had to be unbearable, but somehow he managed to survive until he could get back to safety. It’s beyond comprehension what so many saw, heard and felt in those difficult times. Thank you, Tara, for sharing their stories with us.

Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday on a Tuesday. Lt. Brian Thacker certainly deserved his MOH for his brave and extreme actions on that Vietnamese hilltop. I think that his reaction and response to learning that he would receive the MOH was as perfect as any i have heard. God bless you Mr Thacker, and thank you for your service, Sir. May God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation.

The true Heroes of our military, never expect a reward or (medal).

Their heroism is generated out of their sincerity to get themselves and their

other soldiers, airmen, Marines, andNavy men, back home, to see their famlies and

friends again. Their hope lays in their own quest as well, and is often based, on

their own fears of failing to finish their duty and mission to their commands.

I doubt that a MoH recipient ever felt they deserved the award. That’s the kind of person that truly does. After reading so many stories I think it takes a lot of courage and a bit of luck.
