The storm was just one of many that would rip through the so-called “Dust Bowl” in those years. Indeed, the disaster had been building for decades as pioneers moved westward across the country.
I heard about the dust bowl from my parents and grandparents who lived through this very trying and devastating period. Good farmland was gone forever when the thin topsoil was blown away.
As you said Tara, conservation farming wasn't a thing yet and deep plowing was a mortal blow for these already marginal farms. Coupled with the drought and the hangover of the great depression, the dust bowl years were terrible.

Can’t imagine being caught in such a devastating and ominous circumstance. Nature can be a cruel taskmaster. Thankfully we have learned to keep people safer from climate disasters more than ever before
