British officers later spoke of the “courage and obstinacy with which the Americans fought.” One American officer noted that colonists had “Something more at Stake than fighting for six Pence Pr Day.”
Thank you Tara. The second battle of Saratoga broke the back of the British and the writing was on the wall. As you describe, the Colonists had much more to lose than the British and that was a great motivator.
I find it quite interesting that the British forces began to understand the reason(s) for which the colonial forces under Gen. Gates were fighting, perhaps as much as the colonial forces themselves. Whatever interaction between Gates and Arnold has been lost to time; however, the overall outcome--that which is truly important--was astounding to both sides.
The Colonists had "more at Stake than Six Pence Pr Day". We were fighting for our liberty then and in many ways have needed to fight for it ever since. This pivotal understanding which emerged during the American Revolution is part and parcel of what it means to be an American today.
An unbelievable battle that made our country viable!

The tide had turned. Even the British realized that the America forces were fighting with a fierce vengeance.
👍👍👍
Such tenacity shown by Americans in this battle won the respect of the British involved.
What a great day in American history! Three years later, the British took another whipping at Kings Mountain, NC.
Thank you, Tara.

HUZZAH HEROES!!! 🇺🇸
The Colonists "had something more at stake than fighting for six pence per day". Freedom is priceless!
The ebb and flow of war, like life, I'd hard to see and understand in the thick of it.
Amazing to look back on...
