What a remarkable victory with only 49 pilots/crew lost. The Japanese lost their ability to effectively prosecute any naval offensive action. The understanding of the air crews was clear about their risk and they went with enthusiasm to destroy the Japanese Navy’s Air Force. Remarkable belief and fortitude.

A remarkable generation! If only more of their fortitude, courage and love of country was passed on to following generations. Perhaps we are at a turning point.

Amen Tara. The Greatest Generation were just that. The Greatest. Their unyielding patriotism, determination and their work ethic had no equal. America became a war machine and victory on all fronts wasn't in question. I am so proud to be the offspring of two prime examples of the Greatest Generation. Hard work was their main asset and no obstacle was too difficult. Thank you Tara for continuing to shine your light on their achievements. Without them, we may not have ended WW2 as the United States of America.

What a glorious victory at so great a price. 80 years have gone by and still their memory hangs in the air. Hail the conquering hero, pray for the families of those lost. How many sons, daughters, husbands, wives suffer due to war? Far too many. Freedom has its price. Pray for God's guidance.

We still have and have always had a small group of men (and now women) who have done and will again do whatever it takes to protect the patriot fighting next to them. War breeds very strong people who aren't fearful of stepping up or leading the charge. Too many of our fellow citizens have either forgotten or never learned to respect these leaders. What's happened, people?

Thank you Tara. Most certainly blessed by the generations that gave us our freedom, and have preserved our freedom to this very day.

I think this was one of the historical moments that can’t be told enough times. The greatest generation I think produced some of the greatest Patriotic Americans in our history. Somewhere during the 1960s, it got lost. Perhaps it was a communist infiltration of our education system like Nikita said that they will bury us from within.

My hopes and prayers are that the current group of youngsters seem to be a bit more conservative and Patriotic so perhaps the tide is changing.

Brave men, they took off knowing they probably would not make it back. But they went anyway because they had a job to do.

Great reminder of the many risks our service men did to serve our country. They truly made America great!!! The war in the Pacific was far worse than that in Europe as the Japanese did not join the Geneva Convention rule of war. The worse was yet to come for both sides. Thanks for the history lesson Tara!!

If all the stories of bravery and self-sacrifice were to be told, perhaps the world could not hold the books. The Greatest Generation, indeed! Thank you for keeping the memories alive, Tara Ross!
