Such skirmishes proved important. They were morale boosters for Americans--& they were demoralizing for a British army that once thought it would easily squash our bid for independence.
.....went down to the river, broke thru the ice, walked across with icy water up to their midriff, attacked and routed the enemy.... talk about sheer determination driving them!!!! Thanks, Tara, for this picture of sacrifice employed to defend our nation and its freedoms. Can we put any less effort forth to retain those same freedoms today? I pray we have the strength and resolve as a people!
I wonder if anyone has thought about creating a "true to life" video game of the Revolution. Maybe THAT might get the younger American interested in history.
This is the way it is done! Deprive the enemy of their supplies and you have hampered their endeavors. In this case the farmers and townsmen of New Jersey certainly did their part! Yes, it makes me proud to be an American and let us never forget this heritage they of left for us of liberty for those who will fight for it. Thanks for such a great story, Tara Ross!
The little battles are just as important in winning the war. We never hear about these small victories, but it helps us to understand when we know the whole storyβ¦both the big and the small battles. Itβs how all wars are won.
Thank you for this bit of under-taught history....and today's lesson, Tara!!πΊπΈππΊπΈ
Thank you for this little known story of people doing extraordinary things! πΊπΈ
Brilliant strategy to keep the enemy from getting winter supplies. This battle and its outcome must have been a huge morale booster.
Thank you Tara.

Thank you Tara once again we see courage and determination! Also very demoralizing for the enemy to see it.
It is often said that the army travels on its stomach. Forage was critical to survival and the Patriots knew it!
Tara, as always, a very good history. Very important throughout the Revolution. Southern and northern campaigns.

A little nick here and there will soon have the patient slowly bleeding to death...onto the road to Yorktown.
Thank you, Tara.

Foraging was a real problem for both sides it seems. Millstone was a large success for our forces in this skirmish.
Huzzah Heroes!!!
βForage Warβ
What a name for a battle for provisions that our Continental Army desperately needed and our side won!
Thank you, Tara, for another GREAT story!
