Thank you Tara. The battle of Midway was intense and it had to improve the morale among the US forces, while showing that the Japanese were vulnerable as well as beatable.
The old movie about the battle at Midway stands out in my memory from the many historical war films that have been made. The account of midway is one that I am most familiar with except perhaps the more recent wars starting with Vietnam. The US knew how to fight to win. Of. course we suffered loses, but the strategy was remarkable. It’s an interesting part of our history.
🇺🇸 A quote attributed to Admiral Yamamoto was prophetic. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he feared all Japan had done was awaken a sleeping giant, and at Midway, he knew he was right. 🇺🇲
I am a Navy guy. The stories of Naval victories are some of the most interesting to me. All of the stories of our heroes on land, air or sea Always my heart. I love the United States of America. I’m proud to be an American.
A great story of bravery (on both sides) but we won, I love watching the movies and documentaries about this first and decisive victory! The Lexington save was amazing! Thanks Tara, perhaps a story about the Lexington iscoming soon??
This is a well known story and true. Thanks for the retelling, Tara. We need reminders of our successes as well as our failures, learning how to handle the future.
This was the turning point of WWII that led to the eventual defeat of Japan. Without this devastating blow to Japan, we may never gotten to the naval supremacy that enabled the USA to drop the three nuclear bombs on Japan’s home land.
The written history about the breaking of that code is amazing in its revelations. The Americans lost a flat top that day, but the Japanese had their Naval Aviation decimated - a crippling blow which gave the US Navy a clear advantage and stopped the westward spread of Japanese power.
It seems like I read or heard somewhere, that one of the reasons for ineffective torpedos on our side was due in part to them running too deep to strike the sides of ships. That they sometimes just ran under the targets.

It was the first battle fought entirely with airplanes.
Coming after the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor it must have been an excellent morale booster for the American people. Thank you Tara 😊 💓
A turning point. Thank you Tara for this lesson.
