In light of this country’s current acrimonious debate over 2nd amendment rights, it’s worth noting that the run up to this battle as well as the Lexington/Concord skirmish, the action of the governmental authorities was to disarm the citizens.

Exactly. Now, let's pray that if this is forced upon us, we have the courage and determination to act accordingly.

Another great history that was a key victory for the freedom fighters of the colonies against the English and their King. The Divine Providence of our Lord seems to have always be recognized and praised by our Patriots! Perhaps this sincere recognition of God is what we need today to save the USA Today. I can only pray.

I'll take the guys who do the prep work and keep fighting every single time, in sports and these battles too! Arrogance and laziness will ultimately fail. Thanks again Tara Ross; have a great weekend! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank you Tara. The battle of Great Bridge, while not necessarily a great battle, stung the British and gave a great morale boost to the Patriots. Boosts in morale had to be very important at various times in order to keep fighting the greatest army in the world.

The oppression of the King and the desire for freedom provided the incentive to fight.

Our history is so interesting! You always share something new, Tara. It’s unbelievable that the British would march in a line toward the Americans. It’s a sure way to get killed. Didn’t they think they would be sired upon? The comment from the British ranks indicated the thought never crossed their minds. Glad it didn’t! Made the Americans’ job easier.

Funny how th agressor, marching out to smite the miniscule rabble, shouts " don't murder us" when they meet the forces fighting for their freedom.

I grew up in Tidewater VA now called Hampton Roads by some. The names are very familiar but this lesson is all new to me. Thanks for the lesson. I appreciate you all and thank Tara from my heart.

A common thread among commentary by all our founding fathers is their faith in "Divine Providence". This virtue appears decidedly lacking in many of those leading our country today. Please pardon the rant....but that faith obviously worked in the late 18th century and I would posit it would still be valid in the 21st.

Another peice of history that was unknown to me. Great story of patriot ingenuity. Thank you so much.

Any ideas as to British casualties? Were the British forced to evacuate Virginia shortly thereafter? Following Bunker Hill, then the fortification of Dorchester Heights, the British knew that Boston was indefensible. What was the story with Virginia?
