The cemetery might never have existed but for Martha Washington’s son & grandson. Her son purchased the land, but her grandson built Arlington House. The house was filled with "Washington Treasures."
I knew the it was Lee property, lGreat job giving us a tie to Washington and Lincoln. Digging up those interesting, but obscure facts are why you are my favorite history lady!

The names chiseled into the head stones are not there for vanity. The "fallen" want those that walk past their final resting place, to be reminded, that "Freedom is not cheap, nor is it free". [Would that each one of us could appreciate the personal sacrifice that each and every service person has given, as they answered the call to [help preserve the morals] included in freedom.]
You have to admire the judge who stuck to the Constitution by awarding the land back to it's rightful owner because of a lack of "Due Process". How many times have we heard that phrase recently and how often has it been ignored?

A Great Story. Glad that "Just" Justice ruled at the end.
What was done to the Washington/Lees was unconscionable. Good job judge and SCOTUS.
Interesting story. TY
