Thank you Tara. Once again, I learn of another Hero of an American War. This time, it is of a woman, Anna Marie Lane who served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and who was severely wounded at the battle of Germantown.
It makes my heart feel good to learn that the Virginia legislature granted her a significant pension for her service, at a time when women weren't given the stature or rights of a man.
I have purchased all of your Children's books and donated them to the library of our local non-profit Literacy Center. Again, thank you Tara.
Having grown up in Germantown, I'm very familiar with the names and places that marked this battle, one fought in the literal fog of war. However, this patriot's name was never mentioned. Good job for discovering this oversight and bringing it to light.
Anna Maria was certainly a courageous and determined woman. Even after being wounded she went back to serving her country. She must have been an inspiration to her husband. It’s good, upon the Virginia governor’s request, she was given a pension. She was an amazing patriot. I’m glad we have some history of her life and contributions for the cause of freedom. Another piece of history that is new to me.
Anna Marie Lane must have served with distinction. To have been wounded in battle, then to recover enough that she returned to service speaks volumes of her courage and determination. Let us hope that we continue to remember her.
I always enjoy your writings of women heroines. Most historians only write about about the men that served us all so well, and they deserve all of the accolades they receive. BUT, the woman behind the man definitely support them to able. To do what they did.
Now in Anna Maria Lanes case, she decided to be a take charge kind of person and to go above and beyond the call of duty and receive her just rewards.
Thank you Tara for giving us the insight on so many heroines that have gone before us.

A common soldier who was anything but common!

Anna Maria Lane, what a Heroine, who fought for freedom during our nation’s Revolutionary War against Tyranny!
Thankfully the Congress did help her and others with War related injuries late in their lives!
Thank you, Tara, for this story of Heroism I had never heard of before!
