TDIH: John Adams on Freedom
A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored.
On this day in 1775, John Adams writes a letter to his wife, Abigail. His words still ring true today.
"But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever. When the People once surrender their share in the Legislature, and their Right of defending the Limitations upon the Government, and of resisting every Encroachment upon them, they can never regain it.
Given the challenges of the past three years, perhaps his words are especially worth considering today.
Dear regular readers: Full-fledged history stories return Monday. Happy Friday!
President Adams was absolutely correct. You are also correct Tara, regarding the last few years. The Constitution may have only been amended 28 times; however, the burocracy has claimed much power it isn't entitled to have, and the three branches of government have mitigated their separateness by becoming political, thus leaning in a common direction.
Thank you Tara.
It is amazing how many people don't understand what President Adams said. Tyranny abounds in this country today.
