Thank you Tara. You have become the History teacher that I never had. I have always been fascinated with our American history but you produce many facts that I never learned in high school or college.

I agree with General Washington. Our independence would never have been won without Divine Providence, including great events such as this massive blow to the powerful British crown.

PS: I appreciate your attempts to find a way to appease the algorithm gods or a more suitable forum that won't cost you readers.

Another GREAT story I had never heard of!

After reading this story it looks as if the French and Spanish were looking for any way possible to pull the English off their high horse!

Thank you, again, Tara!

Seems America was affected by global events even then and that is what makes history so worth studying.

Hard to imagine how Spanish Admiral Cordova was able to pull off this humorous fete. Many thanks to the Spanish and French (+- 36 ships) capturing all but 8 of the 63 British ships!

Tara, I believe We the People should open the Society of the Cincinnati from American and French Officers, to include Spanish (and Mexican) officers, or create a Society of the Pensacola, for American and Spanish (Mexican) Revolutionary Officers.

Wonderful story. Also, Spain laid siege to Gibraltar, that caused the British to focus many resources to relieve the siege(s), so not able to send those soldiers and ships to America.
