Well said. I’m an alderman in Shallotte, NC(pop. +/- 5000) and serve on a board with 5 others. We are a mixed bag of liberals and conservatives that have rarely disagreed in my 12 years. IMO because we keep our politics to ourselves and make decisions on what is best for our town and our people. There’s no power or greed fueling our desire to serve. Unfortunately the higher the level of service, the power and greed and desire for such things grows and corrupts most if not all in those positions.

You are absolutely correct about the higher level of service, power and greed. These things were spoken about by the founders, and were experience early in the republic. A few changes like the seventeenth amendment and the explosion in the size of government agencies made it even worse. The size of federal government has to be reduced and the states regain the lost powers to bring sanity back to federal government that has run a muck for 90 or so years.

That’s a hard question to answer, Tara. It took years to bring the country to its current state. It won’t change and become what it once was overnight. Respect for God and country, the education system and family values are good places to start. It’s going to take a lot of strong and courageous people to accomplish such a huge task. We also need to get informed regarding the “leaders” of our country. Teach our young people and show them by example. Pay attention to what motivates politicians and unelected officials, what they stand for and against and then make good use of our precious votes and voices. We need to stand up against un-American and ungodly people. They are not hiding their evil purposes and goals. I honestly don’t know if it can be turned around, but it certainly won’t happen if we don’t try. Just some thoughts not set in stone answers.

Remembering God is the “glue”..my dad told me that when I was a child..I will never forget that. I see our home falling apart without that glue.🙏🏻🇺🇸

Brilliant observations Tara. Thank you for your patriotism and for what you do. There are points in our history that many/most did not recognize the threat. The loss of academia to radical un-American ideologies was something many of us observed and did not recognize as a threat. The total abdication of mainstream media was another. Today we are seeing the same thing on the Corporate level where private businesses are over-stepping the control exercised by Government. If we don't resist this, it will have the same effects as when academia and media were co-opted. If there is optimism, it is that the radicals have shed their facade and have exposed themselves in the last couple of years. Any optimism will rely on the response by the citizenry. One huge foundation of radical forces is propaganda and controlling the narrative. To that end, you provide a huge service in reporting history, and the brilliant principles that this, greatest country in history, was founded on. That light that you shine helps counter modern propaganda. Every time we stray from those founding principles the result is a loss of freedom and liberty, ideals we have long taken for granted. Thank you for your daily effort and commitment!!

Rich by virtue of their political supporters, the Congress needs cleaned out of all who make more than their official salary . Term Limits are needed in Congress just as they were needed for the executive branch. Something else that I think would stop the encroachment against our Rights, is to disbar any judge who's decisions are reversed on a decision concerning The Bill of Rights, by a higher court. Another change needed is to bring back the electric chair for murderers and child traffickers. In 1959, as kids, "You'll get the CHAIR" was a common thought when mischief crossed our minds. Criminals need to fear something more than an ARMED VICTIM! Mike Rowe has another answer to the employment situation and our loss of expertise in mechanical realms, "The APPRENTICESHIP"! It should get government support to further the training of those people who do "the dirty jobs so vital to our society! Let Me know when that's all done. I got more ideas! Better hurry though I'm nearing 75.

You are right, Tara, disunity seems to be the name of the game presently. It seems communism is trying to get a foothold here, something that will ensure a civil war, without certain outcomes. We need to pray for unity, for an opening of minds to the horrors that will come and the dangers that will expose us to if civil war does come.

I definitely think we need to stop trying replace God and patriotism with false gods and hate for America. Every country is flawed. Every history is is flawed. But America was started by people who tried to fix those flaws.

Big question. However there are solutions. First & foremost it’s about choices: 1. GO VOTE 2. Education that’s the American dream- we must get our public schools along with higher education on track for learning. That means the basic foundation of reading writing & arithmetic. Learning & developing skills, From there discovery, exploring, invention, building. All you FOCUS on the objective FREEDOM & the sky is the limit.

Tara, you are so right on today and I am glad that you pulled off your gloves.

I am a 77 year old man who has no answers, much regret over what has happened over the past 22 years, but I haven't given up hope.

This speech of President George W. Bush and the actions of the terrorists on 9-11-2001 did, for a very brief time, unite us as a nation for probably the first time since WW2.

Would another national calamity give us unity? Maybe, but I think that there is so much divisive power in our government, and apathy among the people that cohesive long-term unity may be nearly improbable.

Our younger generation has to take the reins, remember our history, abide by our Constitution and then we may have a chance.

As I said yesterday, GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ALONG WITH ITS NATIONAL ANTHEM. Thank you, Tara Ross.

You are do tight Tara! People needs to stop looking at what they disagree on and talk about what they agree about. Most times they would find they agree more than they disagree. I also think all the people who want to get rid of the electoral college either don't understand its purpose or do and want to circumvent it in their quest for power.

There isn't an easy answer to your question. One way is return the function of the country as a Constitutional Republic and teach that from the earliest graded on up to the highest forms of education. And clearly teach the problems and dangers of pure democracy. The Founders of our country knew the dangers of democracy and worked to prevent a pure democracy.

I’ve never spoken out against George W. Bush because for a moment, at least, he was a great man and leader. Being a long-time great leader takes hard, sustained work (c.f. George Washington). Few men are up to the task...

Expand full comment

Frank, I’ve felt the same way about Bush the younger. A moment in time as a great man and leader doesn’t earn the same enduring respect as men who accomplished outstanding things through sustained hard work over long periods of time like George Washington. History has taught us those men are few and far between.

Thomas Sowell was asked a relatively similar question in a Wall Street Journal Podcast in yesterday’s online edition. His wise and simple analysis should cause all of us to resolve to do what we can at our level to preserve our American Heritage and pass it on to succeeding generations. He is a freedom loving 93 year old American. He offered some solutions in the podcast (Potomac Watch) which you can listen to but he mentioned that first we must have a starting point. Here is his response when asked what his assessment of are country’s current condition and if he thought it could be turned around.

Thomas Sowell: I would say that we should be aware that there is such a thing as a point of no return. In the Roman Empire there were bad times that the Romans got out of and survived. But eventually when you just keep persisting in the wrong-headed things, that's when you reach the point of no return. And I have the feeling that we are on that course, and I'm hoping that some of the people who are out there trying to fight against that will have some success.

That is a short history lesson for us all. If you get the chance, listen to the podcast.

It's hard to form a coalition with someone whose stated goal is to dismantle the American Experiment.

Well, that's where we refuse to elect that person anymore. :) I mean that voters in both parties should be looking for nominees who are able to unify people.
