It had been a tragic day, but the space program wouldn’t—couldn’t—stop. We were racing Russians to the moon. It’s what our lost astronauts had been working towards, too.
I do remember this time as a teenager. It's great to read about it again and be reminded how important our space program is to all of us. I think people forget how young these astronauts are and how long they train. It is a tight knit group. I pray the families of all the men and women are taken care of after the death of a spouse. Without the brave men who went before them, knowing they could lose their lives, even to an accident, our space program wouldn't be where it is now. So praying the new Space Force will kick in soon! Thank you, Tara, for writing about this today!
This is a tragic back story leading up to the first lunar landing. Proud of our men and women and families who shoulder that risk for the country. And proud of the program and those who pick up the mantle to move forward rather than be deterred by such a devastating accident.
I remember reading and hearing of this tragedy when it happened. It is sad that Mr. See and Mr. Bassett had their young and promising lives cut so short. This tragic event occurred during the same week that I had enlisted in the Navy. Thank you Tara.

The sacrifices made to keep and make America GREAT must alwas be remembered and passed along to future generations!
