The war officially ended March 29, 1973 and Nixon left office August of 1974.

Then Kennedy and Eisenhower would be excluded since didn’t officially start until 1965.

We had Advisors (Special Forces) in Combat there as early as the late 50s with the first American death in combat (SF) in 1962.

We also had “advisors” helping the French colonialists vs. the Viet Minh during the Truman administration in the late 1940’s.

Cannot quote but remember reading the CIA was in Vietnam in 1954 and accompanied by Special Forces at times. The beginning and end of this terrible war in our history will always be in dispute because of differing points of view. There are official dates established.

Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. served as the 38th president of the United States from 1974 to 1977.

Ford was in office when the North Vietnamese overran the South Vietnam (and our Embassy there). This happened because the Democrats in Congress refused to live up to our treaty commitment resupply the south. Ford most definitely dealt with the issues of the Vietnam war—not to mention the mass exodus/migration of South Vietnamese seeking to avoid extermination by (Commie scum) of the north

Not classed as combat troops, but as “advisors”, there were 11,000 Special Forces and support personnel in South Vietnam during 1962. Under John F. Kennedy’s administration.
