Thank you Tara. Women would finally be recognized as equals, thanks to the efforts of the brave Women of the WASPS and many others during WW2. Nearly every American sacrificed and served in some fashion, this nation, during this "all out" war and the Women pilots of the WASPS certainly more than pulled their own weight.
I was proud to serve alongside many Women throughout my 4 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
It always pleases me when history lessons like this appear. The WASPs were a fantastic part of the service, freeing up men (for the front line) in this critical role. Thanks again, Tara!
The Comanding general of the United States Army Air Forces said it best; "Now in 1944, it is on the record that women can fly as well as men."
And I suspect that comment spoken by him did enough to put rest the resistance to women pilots serving the military. Those WASP pilots truly earned every last bit recognition that they got, and didn't get, but they did deserve.
Had the opportunity to meet one of these incredible girls back in the 1980's. She was very modest about her service, but did share some incredibly interesting stories. She was tatractive, fun and vivacious. Truly a trailblazer!!!!
Just love this story. Nothing is impossible is you put your mind to it. So much effort from the greatest generation for our freedom. God bless them all.
God has equipped men and women with unique gifts. It is unfortunate that not just men but society as a whole was slow to recognize the unique gifts and strength women possess to contribute to the success of our Nation.
These women are a credit to their gender. They were strong, competent and still beautifully feminine. They served honorably and I imagine the commanding general Henry Arnold was not the only man who recognized their worth and appreciated their help. Since these brave women began the pilot programs many women have followed in their footsteps. Thanks for highlighting their accomplishments, Tara.
Thank you for this article, Tara. These women made valuable contributions to the war efforts in WWII, and I'm glad to see them get the recognition they deserve.
This is a GREAT story of Ladies doing their duty to their nation and the futures of their children to be! These Ladies would not let others stand in the way of their duty!
Thank you, Tara, for this important history lesson!

Forwarded to my granddaughters. Thanks Tara!
Amelia would have done it well, had she still been alive....
Another great story that should have been taught in history class years ago. Thank you.

Thank you so much. An awesome lesson today. Woman pilots were my favorites when I was a crew member. They were amazing.
LOVE these snippets of little known, unsung, and otherwise forgotten heroes... Thanks Tara...
