It must be a standard for a MOH recipient. "I had a job to do or, I was just doing my job." American Heroes were just doing their jobs is typical of what MOH recipients say about the actions that caused their awards. These men are typically humble, recognize the efforts of their fellow soldiers and they often feel that they are just doing what is expected.

I believe that MOH awardees are very special people who are proud to die in favor of their nation and their fellow soldiers.

Thank you Tara for devoting a significant part of your columns to recognize American Heroes.

Vernon Baker was one such hero who was doing his job and what was expected of him on his mission to capture Castle Aghinolfi during WW2 in France.

The attitude of a man brought up through hard times. Not just the Great Depression, but a nation which treated him as a second class citizen. We need to remember this great man with due honor. Many thanks to Vernon Baker and may he rest in peace. Thank you, TR!
