Our space program has been one of the most exciting things to witness. I was a young mother when Challenger exploded. I remember where I was and will never forget the deep sadness I felt. When Discovery was launched it felt like renewed hope. The return to flight was a grand accomplishment and proved once again that America may be down, but she will rise again.

I was very fortunate to watch the launch of this flight. I was attending a training class in Sanford FL and the entire class was dismissed to watch the launch. Incredible doesn't begin to describe the sensation. The sound waves physically hit me several seconds after Discovery left the ground. A monumental event for me . My father would wake us to watch the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo missions and I remember Alan Shepard blasting into space. Makes me proud to be an American....

Thank you for this.

Reagan's words on this one were particularly well chosen. People today could stand to study a little more about Frontier culture.

A very important time in our history of NASA. The astronauts on this flight were extremely brave men. President Reagan was quite eloquent with his remarks about the pioneering spirit of Americans.

What a run the Space Shuttle program had. We were such a proud Nation. And those scars on the space shuttle on display in the museum are left to tell a story. Like the bullet holes left on some of the buildings at Pearl Harbor or neighboring Hickam Air Force Base, the civil war battle fields all tell a story of our heritage and the risks we take for freedom and progress.

At my age I remember all. I was in awe each time. I remember how my youngest son was affected by Challenger. Discovery and the crew were amazing and very brave. It is sad the shuttle program was discontinued. We need to bring back what we had

I remember nearly all of the NASA flights as they are awe inspiring. The space shuttle program was filled with success along with some disaster but as Reagan said, we must keep trying which is how our nation has been since its beginning.

I for one was disappointed that the shuttle program was discontinued, leaving us without a launching platform to the space station and beyond. Thank you Tara for remembering the Discovery and the much needed space program. I am grateful for the private space programs and Elon Musk for his successful endeavors.

I enjoyed seeing Discovery in the museum. Watch many of the launches on TV. Always wanted to be in person. Will always remember where I was when we lost Columbia and Challenger. Prayers for all who push the frontiers.
