Thanks Tara. Another historical record comes to life. I truly think the most important part of your site is how you bring us these history nuggets existing the broad strokes. Please keep bringing it.
A friend is visiting that island chain and scuba diving. I sent him the email. Will enjoy hearing from him about his adventures. This story made many proud and strong to continue the fight. So glad to learn this lesson Tara. Thank you. 🙏❤️💪🇺🇲
Thank you Tara. Operation Hailstone was certainly "payback" for the dastardly Pearl Harbor attack. A critically important base for the Japanese, heavily fortified and manned with many ships, planes and men, the Japanese base, Truk Lagoon, was devastated by the American Navy, beginning on February 18th, 1944. Much of the Japanese resources on this island were destroyed and the Japanese had to have been demoralized by their loss.
God bless the United States of America. We prevailed and we defeated the Japanese after the Japanese stirred the American fighting spirit with the attack of Pearl Harbor.
I believe it was during this raid that George H. W. Bush was shot down. I remember reading his story in a book of stories about American pilots during WW2. Thanks for this interesting bit of history!
This is a fantastic account of American fighting spirit. After Pearl Harbor we were down, but not out. Operation Hailstone was a strong answer to the Japanese attack in Hawaii. Our military was still moving forward to answer the terrible destruction to our Naval ships and most importantly the loss of all those sailors lives. It’s one of many actions that prove the determination of our countrymen to protect and preserve our precious nation and the freedoms we enjoy.

🇺🇲 Wow, I'd not known of Operation Hailstone until now. It reminds me of the idiom, "When you strike at a king, you must kill him."
The attack on Pearl was devastating, but
as Yamamoto feared, it woke the "giant and filled him with a terrible resolve." (One of Hollywood's greatest quotes)
Thanks for this, TR. 🇺🇲
