Thanks TARA.. At least eventually ...SOME .. of the efforts and heroism get acknowledged in time. It's the same thing with the COLD WAR. Some " ALMOST" Nuclear war ... Special Ops that have yet to see the "light-of-day". Air Force families ... over 200 Air Crew shot down and KIA ... will maybe never know the missions their loved ones died on. Dept of DEFENSE .. to this day .. refuses to even acknowledge the entire Cold War itself ... officially .. by having a symbolic "CAMPAIGN Medal" for the memory "shadow boxes" of those that gave so much for so many years. Even Kosovo .. 4 total KIA ... has its Campaign medal. Have you EVER ... even seen "Cold War" ... on a tomb stone in our National Cemetery?

I did get a certificate recognizing my Cold War service, but I had to apply for it. That was just a few years ago.

Wow. Amazing tactic and apparently successful though extremely dangerous. I wonder, were any were shot down? As always, thank you Tara.

Amazing! Men able to keep secret things secret for the safety of other men and continuation of the missions. Quite a story of bravery and also successful wartime strategy. Thanks for another great history lesson, Tara.

Thank you for the post. These people went not knowing the who, what or where of their flights. Brave people flying...brave people as passengers... and brave people receiving the supplies.

What an incredible story of heroism. I had never heard of Operation Carpetbagger. The resistance risked their lives every day. How about those spys dropping behind enemy lines? Wow! Brave, brave men and women. Thank you Tara for a fabulous gem.

Great history story. I had not heard of Operation Carpetbagger. Men who served in WWII should be recognized for their heroic actions. To those men who kept silent all those years after serving congratulations on your service and for not saying what they did during the war.

Have been reading about WWII for many years. Knew that we were supporting the Resistance but had not read about Operation Carpetbagger before. Another interesting use for the B-24s and their crews. Thanks, as always, for this most interesting story.

Thanks, TR! Amazed at folks who did the work without any acknowledgement of their bravery and contributions.
