Mum Bett was one tough and shrewd lady to do what she did. Perhaps she was the person who gave Rosa Parks the courage to refuse to sit at the back of the bus? At any rate, both women achieved significant improvement in the legal sense for black people in the United States.

Thank you Tara for remembering Mum Bett (Elizabeth Freeman). Her courage was remarkable.

A very astute lady who although not formally educated, thought about her freedoms and boldly asserted her rights according to the Constitution. A great lesson for us all.
