I love these untold stories about our Revolutionary war, I did not know this about story, but it is very interesting! Thanks for sharing Tara!!

Wow. Thank you Tara! Where you find information like this story, I don't know.

The famous and now infamous John Paul Jones obviously couldn't control his men so he had to followup with his own actions, to pay for what his men had done. It seems that Jones initiated the idea of ransom for a relatively minor figure but then, he urged his own men to limit the harm they caused?

At any rate, the silver was stolen by Jones' crew and repurchased by Jones and then returned to the Earl. Not a sound financial model, in my opinion. What an interesting story during our quest for freedom and independence.
