I don't know but this story leads me to name John Barry the Father of the Navy. He was there when it began and before. Thanks Tara. πŸ™β€οΈπŸ’ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

We Must Never Forget those who risked, or gave, their all for our nation!

John Barry was a great man who did great things for his and our nation!

Thank you, Tara, for this little known story!

The evidence does build a strong case for Barry to be recognized as the Father of the Navy. I will be looking forward to reading the arguments for John Paul Jones!

Seems Commodore Barry was destined for his call from an early age.

Without reading John Paul Jones arguments it seems to me that John Barry by his lengthy and patriotic service earned the title of Father of the Navy. He accomplished so much in building this nation even becoming the Commodore. It’s unlikely John Paul Jones did more or had a better background. Waiting to see what he has to say for himself. Another great piece of history, Tara.
