I have one thing in common with that valiant man. I still get moved by the sight of the American flag flying proudly overhead. I credit my veteran Dad, a veteran aviation mechanic of the Flying Tigers, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, for my very strong love for America.

Colonel Stone certainly sounds like a typical MOH honoree. His men were the heroes and he was just there giving them support. A humble man who didn't speak of his heroism is typical also. I admire the Medal of Honor for its rarity and appropriateness when awarded. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

Some take the American Flag for granted in our day. Some, even disregard it, ignore it or even deface it. The questions we have to ask is why and how can we give the flag the prominence and priority it represented for this American Warrior. Somewhere in his U.S. citizenship experience the flag gave him an identity and a belonging that overwhelmed him with a comfort and security at the sight of it.
