Great Story

He must of been one big lad growing up. Fourteen, forging this mother signature, stowing away on a troop ship, he was in the right place, the United States Marine Corps.

Joining at a young age was a very common event during WWII, I am the son of one of those Marines.

They truly were the greatest generation.

Thank you Tara

Jack H. Lucas was a very determined young man (emphasis on the young). He repeatedly lied about his age and he forged his mother's signature to join the Marines at age 14. He then took a number of detours to get into battle on Iwo Jima.

He saved his fellow squad members by jumping on two grenades. This apparently was the way to a Medal of Honor.

Mr. Lucas was awarded the MOH when one would think that he earned a long trip to the Brig. Heroism won out and he now has a brand new Navy Destroyer wearing his name.

God bless Jack Lucas and God bless all of the Greatest Generation and all who served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara.
