The “shot heard ‘round the world” at Lexington and Concord was still five years in the future when British soldiers went after unarmed New Yorkers with bayonets.
Great story of which I have never heard. Tara you are amazing. If history teachers in schools would have made history lessons about just dates and places perhaps more people would have been better students. Thank you for your research and sharing this information.
Thank you Tara. Either way, the Patriots wanted to express their feelings and the war for independence and liberty could have begun in 1770 or 1776 or possibly even earlier than 1770. The desire for freedom of expression is inherent and the American people likely were displeased with the British King long before the first bullets flew.
God bless the United States of America, may we forever be free.
Thank you for this interesting historical event. It is one I do not remember ever having read or studied the event. I read how that by the time of even the Stamp Act that the colonials had experienced such freedom and self-government that they would not put up with being a second class citizen! The British were very snobbish about their status over the mere colonials! It cost them big time!
Thanks again Tara! 🇺🇸🇺🇲
🇺🇲 Thank you, TR. Yet again, something I think I should have known, I learn from you post.
Looking back, it's amazing to see the trail that lead us, finally, to 1783.
Wonder how historians will look back on us in 200 years or so...
I never heard of that. Thanks for all your history posts.
Great history lesson!! Sons of Liberty rocked!!!

I have never heard of this! Do you know where, in NY, the liberty poles were erected?
I had never heard about this! Once again, thank you for educating me with your wonderful writing and knowledge of history!

Another unknown lesson of American history. The early settlers were a determined bunch. This was indeed the “foundations of the American dream”. 🇱🇷

Thank you, Tara.
