This would seem like the worst way to die....

A real Hero - giving his life for his comrades. Thank you, Tara Ross, for keeping the memory of Fred W Stockham alive.

Gunnery Sergeant Fred Stoçkham apparently decided that he had less to live for than those who left families back home because he gave his gas mask to a fellow Marine who had lost his own gas mask. Knowing certain death, Stockham repeatedly went to rescue fellow fallen Marines. He eventually was awarded the MOH posthumously. God bless Gunny Stockham and may God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara.

Such bravery to risk your own life to save others, to give your life saving gas mask to others knowing what would happen to you is true courage! The forgotten Great Would war 1 had many brave Americans who fought the war to end all wars!! So sad no family could be found seems his family were his fellow soldiers.

Thank you for sharing this courageous man's actions. Thankful that they were eventually recognized. Set the standard for those he served with. I'm sure there were many who were grateful.

WW I stories hardly ever get recounted except for the ones you share, Tara. Much more familiar with WW II and the wars following. Fred Stockham’s courage and sacrifice should be remembered. It’s good that he has been well honored and respected throughout the years. He is an important person in American history.

Training for chemical exposure was painful. What Mr Sockham went through was 1000% worse. He went over the top saving his men from a living hell. He Gave All. Thanks Tara for the lesson. 🙏❤️💪🇺🇲
