Silk ran out of grenades, so he began throwing rocks. Twelve Germans surrendered, “overcome by his relentless assault and confused by his unorthodox methods."
WOW!!! God must have been on his side helping him for all the gun fire he took and not to be killed. The bravery is awe inspiring . I agree we need teacher to teach about our Hero’s. Our history is full of Hero doing amazing feats. Thanks for telling his story
Thank you Tara. I agree with the community leader who said that the MOH awardees are on a higher platform and there should be a marker in the hometown of each.
Lt. Silk certainly was a hero whose heroics deserves recognition. A very brave man.
Oh my! The courage of one man that makes a big difference to so many others. Who would have thought rocks would work so well to confuse and conquer the enemy. Kind of reminds me of David and Goliath. The last paragraph says it very well. Thanks, Tara, for sharing another little known hero.
Amazing guy!! The community leader was absolutely correct by saying that we need to know about our MOH recipients and to be able to celebrate their achievements!! Keep them coming Tara, and thank you for today's lesson!!
What an amazing story! Thank God for men of the likes of LT Silk! He was carried through by sheer guts and determination! And God said, "Not today!" It is so sad that he died in the manner he did. I wonder how much of his ulcer disease was related to his service. So many suffer in silence with unseen wounds.

🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
I loved reading this to start my week. An American hero standing against the Nazi regime. Thank you Tara!
Who knew that rocks could be substituted for grenades. Quick thinking and such resourcefulness. Thank you for your service and bravery Mr. Silk.
Make them guess about what is happening so the uncertainty leads to surrender. Very smart! Well done Sir…
Thank You for this story!! David took Goliath with rocks..and Americans took out Germans using the same method..awesome! 🇺🇸
Thank you Tara!
Another great story of courage under fire!
As the “Community Leader” stated, these stories need to be repeated over and over again so that future generations never forget what they fought for!
Amazing hero! 🇺🇸
Betsy Tara Ross what a tragic ending for our hero! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

What dozens of Nazi soldiers could not do, a bleeding ulcer completed. If only we had known about pilori bacteria back then.
HUZZAH HERO!!! 🇺🇸
Thank you for being the one to teach us about the Medal of Honor recipients!
