Market Commons is a mixed use real estate development on the site of the former Myrtle Beach AFB. It is popular with tourists. To get there you drive down Farrow Parkway named for William “Billy Farrow from Darlington County South Carolina. Lt. Farrow was a navigator with Doolittle’s raiders. Captured in China by the Japanese he was transferred to Japan and executed. The people back in Darlington County spent the war not knowing his fate. My mom was one of those left wondering until the end of the war.
The Greatest generation would always try the near impossible, a bomber run on mainland Japan from B-25 bombers from a carrier was impossible until it wasn't. Bad weather, longer distance, no problem! Leaders lead and Doolittle lead by example! Good thing he made it off or history would have changed. These were all brave men, especially those who gave all. Thanks Tara!!!
I love this story and never tire of its retelling! It sounds the depths of American derring-do and proved the capability of our military when brought to bear against an enemy. We have so much to offer the world and while we are not always right, but we are willing to do all to stop an enemy in its tracks.
Brave Americans who answered the call to what the Japanese did to their homeland. Doolittle knew what needed to be done and led the charge which is the best sign of great leadership. Amazingly courageous man for an amazing time in our history. Thank you for sharing this
One of the great examples of the bravery of our American heroes. during this epic battle against the forces who would destroy our beloved America. God's blessings to every one of them.
Thank you Tara. The Doolittle gang accomplished the nearly impossible and they hit the Japanese homeland in a forewarning of what was to come. Their willingness to volunteer for a one way mission is proof of their loyalty to their commander and to their nation. God bless the Greatest Generation and all who have served or currently serve.
The Doolittle Raiders exploits during the war are well documented, but there’s always other details that are overlooked or excluded. Learned a few new things about this group of brave pilots.
I just picked up a free copy of I Could Never Be So Lucky Again this past weekend and then this week discovered the mural of General Billy Mitchell at American Legion Post 85 which I took a pic for my IG. Didn’t realize the anniversary was coming up. Serendipity to find this article in my feed.

Waking the sleeping dragon is never a good plan!

🇺🇸 The stuff of Legend...when we know the outcome. Bravery and a touch of insanity when you're doing it in real time. 🤯
Thanks, TR 🇺🇲

"Doolittle" is an ironic name, as Jimmy did quite a lot!
I once did a workers' compensation audit on "Doolittle and Sitmore Electric Company." From then on, the name has cracked me up!
Good morning Tara Ross!👀🤔☕😳💯🇱🇷🏴☠️❤️
