Oddly, that battle wasn’t fought on Bunker Hill. But why? The answer can be found in a decision made by Colonel William Prescott on the evening of June 16. Or was it?
Good morning. My hometown hero was General Gridley. He was a very interesting and experienced officer. The story I heard as a child was that he chose Breed’s Hill because of its proximity to the harbor.
Whatever the reason, it precipitated a response! Strange that they moved onto Breeds Hill when the objective was Bunker Hill. But history is full of strange.
So much confusion during such an important situation. As the saying goes: too many cooks spoil the broth. It is even more of a problem when there are too many leaders with different opinions. We know they were successful in the end. Looking forward to rest of the story.
Great intro to the famous battle on the Wrong Hill. Thank you, Tara Ross.
Probably not the first time a bunch of dudes didn't ask for directions, and definitely not the last! 😉
