Despite the Missing Three, Alcatraz is synonymous with "escape proof," "End of the Line." Thank you, Tara Ross, for a bit of history of America's most famous prison.

My first visit was in 1996. went a few times with relatives. Nice to learn about. I wonder about the 3 men who escaped without a trace. Good mystery. Thank you Tara. 🙏❤️💪🇺🇲

I have a friend in Chicago who asked his girlfriend, now his wife, to marry him while kneeling in a cell on Alcatraz. Yes, he's a bit quirky (she is too!), but it made for a memorable engagement!

Wondering if he proposed wearing a ball and chain😂

Haha! No. He got that at the wedding ceremony. 😜

Alcatraz doesn't seem to be inescapable due to its proximity to San Francisco. It appears to be much closer than it really is. And, the cold water is pretty fierce.

Anyway, it certainly has a lore that probably will endure. Thank you Tara.

We’ve seen Alcatraz many times through the years, but never knew the full history associated with “The Rock”. It has a very interesting past.

Went to Alcatraz with my grand daughter on her fourth grade field trip to San Francisco. Memorable trip!

Thanks Tara,

Looks like several commented they had gotten to visit. I did as a teenager in 1978 with my girl scout troop. (We took a month long trip from New Orleans to tour part of the country.) The park ranger who gave the tour had a sense of humor about the 3 escapee's you mentioned. Clint Eastwood had just finished a movie about the mystery and the ranger fantasized about his idea of the end of the movie with a ranger telling visitors the story and an older visiter (one of the brothers) in the crowd winks back at the ranger with a nod. Anyway....a cool place to visit.

🇺🇸 Alcatraz is a true American icon. A tough, hard place, both inside and out.

Only God's sense of humor would put Alcatraz near San Francisco, California. iykyk

Thanks, TR. 🇺🇲
