Presidential Trivia Answers (Oct. 24 & 25)
Thanks for playing!
(1) QUESTION: Which President decided to renovate an attic, turning it into a third floor for the White House?
ANSWER: Calvin Coolidge. The roof was also repaired.
(2) QUESTION: Which President first added solar panels to a roof in the White House complex?
ANSWER: Jimmy Carter. They were later removed during a Reagan-era roof repair. George W. Bush and Barack Obama both contributed to bringing solar panels back.
(3) QUESTION: Which President(s) have moved out of the White House while renovations or changes were made to that residence?
ANSWER: James Madison, Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, and Harry Truman. Madison was forced out when the British set fire to the White House, of course. Roosevelt left during a major 1902 renovation, and Coolidge left while the third floor was added. Truman left because the structural integrity of the White House had come into question. The Trumans moved to the Blair House while the presidential residence was completely gutted and rebuilt.
