(1) QUESTION: Which President(s) (if any) have been sworn in by their nickname?
ANSWER: Jimmy Carter. He is the only President to take the oath of office using his nickname. Full disclosure: I am relying on the Library of Congress for this information. I admittedly did not track down the transcript of each and every presidential inauguration.
(2) QUESTION: Which President signed a law allowing women to be admitted as members of the Supreme Court bar?
ANSWER: Rutherford B. Hayes, in 1879. Once admitted to the bar, women could submit and argue cases before the Court.
(3) QUESTION: With a lifespan of more than 90 years, President John Adams held the record for the longest-lived President for quite some time. Who was the first President to break the record? Who holds the record right now? HT: to @Walter for the question idea.
ANSWER: Ronald Reagan was the first to break the record. He lived 93 years, 119 days. That record didn’t last long. Gerald Ford soon broke it, passing away at 93 years and 165 days old. That record didn’t last long, either. George H.W. Bush soon broke it, living 94 years and 171 days. Jimmy Carter holds the current record at 99 years and counting.
Thank You, Tara
I enjoyed that
Now that women are allowed in bars, I’m wondering what Tara is up to next Friday night...
