Presidential Trivia Answers (May 31 & June 1)

(1) QUESTION: Which President(s) took up drawing or painting as a hobby?

ANSWER: George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Dwight Eisenhower, Ulysses S. Grant.

(2) QUESTION: One of our Presidents was a member of the House, Senator-elect and President-elect ALL on the same day. Who was he?

ANSWER: James Garfield was a congressman when he was elected President in 1880. He was elected to the Senate by the Ohio legislature that same year, but he declined the Senate seat in favor of the presidency.

(3) QUESTION: Which President fought a duel and killed his opponent?

ANSWER: Andrew Jackson.  His opponent, Charles Dickinson, was known to be a very good shot, so Jackson decided that he would let Dickinson go first. If Jackson survived Dickinson’s shot, then he would then be able to make his own shot more carefully.  In the end, Jackson took a bullet that seriously wounded him.  Dickinson, however, did not survive at all.
