ANSWER: Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley. Some might add two others: (1) Andrew Johnson, who was technically a Brigadier General because he was military governor of Tennessee; (2) Chester Arthur, who served in administrative roles for the New York militia.
(2) QUESTION: At least one future President had a horse shot out from under him during the Civil War. Which President(s)?
ANSWER: Most of them! Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, William McKinley.
(3) QUESTION: Excluding General Ulysses S. Grant, which of these future Presidents was the highest-ranking Civil War officer?
ANSWER: James Garfield (Major General).
Certainly interesting that the well-heeled Denali crowd never says anything about McKinley's being a Civil War veteran who had a horse shot out from under him.
