(1) QUESTION: True or False? George Washington once wrote: “Associate yourself with Men of good Quality if you Esteem your own Reputation; for ‘is better to be alone than in bad Company.”
ANSWER: True, but extra points to anyone who knows why this was tricky: The quote doesn’t originate with him. It comes from “110 Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation,” which Washington copied as a teenager. It was mostly likely a handwriting exercise. He did write it, though, even if they weren’t his words.
(2) QUESTION: Which President once quipped, “Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.”
ANSWER: Herbert Hoover. If only he could see us now?!?!
(3) QUESTION: Which President said: “[If] the freedom of Speech may be taken away—and, dumb & silent we may be led, like sheep, to the Slaughter.”
ANSWER: George Washington. It was part of a letter that he wrote to his Army officers in March 1783.
Great quotes and background on each
