(1) QUESTION: Which President was the first to have his photograph taken while he was in office?
ANSWER: William Henry Harrison. He posed for a daguerreotype on his Inauguration Day in 1841. This photograph has since been lost. In 1849, James Polk was the next sitting President to pose for a daguerreotype. This photo is still in existence.
(2) QUESTION: What is the oldest known existing photograph of a President or ex-President?
ANSWER: A few photographs were taken of John Quincy Adams in 1843, and they still exist in some form or fashion. One of these is the oldest known existing photograph of a President.
(3) QUESTION: Who was President when a photograph was taken of the White House for the first time?
ANSWER: James Polk. The photo was taken in 1846. See picture.
